Food as Care
At Serenity Plus AFH, the kitchen is not a catering operation. It is the heart of the home. Every morning, the aroma of a real breakfast fills the house. Every evening, residents gather at the family dining table for a meal that was cooked fresh that day, by someone who knows their preferences, their restrictions, and their favorites.
Nutrition in older adults is clinically significant — malnutrition, dehydration, and weight loss are leading contributors to hospitalization in seniors. We take this seriously, tracking each resident's food intake, hydration, and weight to ensure nutritional goals are consistently met.
What We Accommodate
Medical Diets
Low-sodium, diabetic, renal, cardiac, and other medically prescribed diets are followed precisely and cross-referenced with physician orders.
Texture Modifications
Pureed, minced, and soft diets for residents with swallowing difficulties — prepared to look appealing, not clinical.
Cultural Preferences
We learn each resident's food heritage and incorporate familiar dishes and flavors — because comfort food is genuinely comforting.
Allergies & Intolerances
All known allergens are tracked in each resident's care plan and observed strictly in every meal prepared.
Appetite Challenges
For residents with reduced appetite — common in dementia and late-stage illness — we offer smaller, frequent, nutrient-dense portions and preferred foods.
Hydration
Adequate fluid intake is actively monitored and encouraged throughout the day, with preferences for beverages always accommodated.
Three home-cooked meals and two snacks are provided daily. Menus rotate regularly and are reviewed with residents for feedback and preference.
Mealtimes as Social Rituals
Beyond nutrition, shared meals at our family table are among the most meaningful moments of the day. Residents talk, laugh, and connect. Caregivers sit with them, not apart. For many residents — especially those with dementia — mealtimes provide reliable social anchors in an otherwise confusing day. We protect that ritual intentionally.
